Frequently Asked Questions
ACTING
SCHOOL
What specific skills will I gain?
Participating in theater workshops guarantees increased self-confidence and greater awareness of using your voice and body, both on stage and in other public situations. You will learn to better control your stress. You will enhance your cooperation skills, creativity, and freedom of thought. You will better understand how your emotions work. But most importantly, you will spend a great time with other people who share similar interests.
Do I need to be talented?
No, that’s not the point. We aim for everyone to gently push the boundaries of their abilities. Whether you move your boundary from point B to D or from point C to G is not as important. Only a few of our participants want to become professional actors; the rest participate for pleasure and personal development.
Who enrolls in WASA?
Our participants are adults who want to work on themselves. Some have a strong need to change their lives and become actors. Others need to learn better emotional expression, avoid blocking themselves in difficult situations, or simply spend valuable time not in front of a computer but in real contact with lively, interesting people.
ACTING
WORKSHOPS
Am I not too old for acting workshops?
Our workshops are aimed at individuals from the age of 16 with no upper age limit. They are for anyone who could benefit from acting training. Its elements – body and voice work, stress management techniques, creativity development – are extremely useful in everyday life, whether at work or in private life. The average age in our workshops is 25-30 years old.
Are the workshops for ordinary mortals?
Yes. The workshops are for anyone who wants to work on their expression. It’s not about becoming a professional actor/actress. Beginner workshops are for those who have never had any experience with theatre.
Should I be afraid?
The work is conducted in a way to generate as little stress and as much enjoyment as possible. Sessions are conducted gently, with sensitivity, humor, and without pretension.
Why do we exercise in comfortable clothing?
The idea is to be able to move freely – to jump, bend, and breathe deeply. Because in theatrical activities, we use our entire body. We also bring soft shoes for changing; you can also exercise in socks, as sometimes we lie on the floor and don’t want to inhale dust and dirt.
Can I make up for missed sessions in semester workshops? For example, in another group?
We have a rule that you cannot make up for missed sessions in another group. Each group has a different program adjusted on an ongoing basis to the participants. We also value working comfortably – because these are regular meetings in a stable group, we can get to know each other better and work without inhibition.
VOCAL
WORKSHOPS
Which semester group should I join at the beginning?
To start, if you want to explore what you can do with your voice, we recommend the general group “Open Voice,” where we work a lot on removing psychophysical barriers and trying different ways of using the voice – we practice speeches, sing a little, experiment a little, get to know our natural instrument.
Do I need to know musical notes to sign up for singing workshops?
You don’t need to know notes. We teach methods that do not require musical education. We work with traditional material that has been passed down orally for centuries. Our mission is to popularize singing as a normal, healthful, and social activity. You don’t have to be a marathon runner to run, a chef to cook, or a professional musician to sing.
Why do we practice in comfortable clothing during classes?
It’s about being able to move freely – jump, bend, breathe deeply. Because we use the whole body to produce sound. We also bring soft shoes for changing; you can also practice in socks because sometimes we lie on the floor and don’t want to inhale dust and dirt.
Why sign up for semester workshops? Isn’t one weekend enough?
In voice work, as in working with other parts of the body, consistency is important. Regular exercises strengthen the muscles involved in the phonation process and consolidate healthy habits. However, if you don’t have time for semester workshops, you can choose the weekend option to gain tools for your own work or to see if our methods are right for you.
Can I make up for missed classes in semester workshops? For example, in another group?
We have a rule that you cannot make up for classes in another group. Each group has a different program adjusted on an ongoing basis to the participants. We also care about the comfort of work – thanks to regular meetings in a fixed group, we can get to know each other better and work without inhibition. However, when it comes to singing, we always send recordings and texts to catch up on your own.
